My personal approach to deciding roles and duties actually starts with the Player Traits - these are the highest influencer on the way a player will play. A poacher, most likely, might need higher Agility, Pace, Acceleration etc. A TM on Support will win headers but look to head down to a partner, a TM on Attack will tend to head to goal. You need to be aware of the other attributes that 'play in to' the role/duty - a TM's Off the Ball or First Touch will change the way he plays as a Poacher for example. If the player has the attributes for a role he will 'do a job' in that role regardless of what the game indicates. Using the Poacher/Target Man as the example, if your Target Man has Heading at 16 and Jumping at 17, then playing him in a Poacher role well, he still has Heading of 16 and JR 17. You can also set the colours to suit your comfort/ease as well.ĪS for using hte player attributes to decide the roles, the game will 'suggest' the most suitable role for the player, but at the end of the day the attributes he has will be far more influential. My personal preference is to set those thresholds in the 'screen flow' so that they are more in line with the level at which I am playing. The colours can be changed to suit your own preference - I think the default is Green = Superb Yellow = Good and Red=Below average.

HI Able Archer, yes you are along the right lines with that thought process. But for a beginner, I think this was a HUGE change in my understanding.

It isn't the role of Poacher that got me 2 goals in the last game-it was that my player's skills and rules allowed him to play his best-a different player needs a different combination.ĭoes that sound about right? I realize, as I get further and further in, I'll learn how to better control the nuance. A player’s personality is broadly described by his personality. However, unlike Determination and Leadership, the ratings of the personality attributes are hidden. That said, I shouldn't try to force my Target Man into the poacher role. Like Determination and Leadership, the personality attributes are rated from 1 (low) to 20 (high). I should probably use him as a poacher anytime he's in the game, for the most part. I've got a player with tremendous "Poacher" skills. I think I was playing incorrectly-trying to use these as ways to limit the opponent, using only the 3 categories (In Possession, Transition, Out of Possession) and not really using it to maximize my players' effectiveness. This screen (Tactics->Players) has made me understand that the roles are just sets of rules for the player to follow, and not as much about countering what the opponent is strong/weak in. Knowing what the colors mean is probably secondary (try to get as big of a number in the highlighted fields as possible is easy enough to remember). Finding the screen itself was certainly a big help. Actually, I did just find the advanced color selector, and I'll be sure to take advantage of that.ĭespite help from many, I'd been struggling to understand how to decide appropriate roles and tactics for my team.
